Real Madrid starter not training with the team due to minor discomfort – report

First-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois skipped training today owing to mild pain, according to Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, as Real Madrid continue their season-preparation tour of the United States of America.

The journalist clarifies that there is no need to be concerned about the Belgian international’s condition. However, the staff requested that the custodian work with the physios today rather than practicing with the group.

On Wednesday night, Real Madrid will play Manchester United in their second preseason game of the US trip. It would be intriguing to see if Courtois is healthy enough to play against the Red Devils given the discomfort he is now experiencing.

The 31-year-old is without a doubt the top choice between the sticks and has been a star performance for Los Blancos in recent seasons. Courtois played 49 times in all competitions last season despite having some fitness issues.

Andriy Lunin is Real Madrid’s second-choice goalkeeper and serves as their backup. The Ukrainian began against AC Milan in the opening Friendlies of the US Tour and ultimately gave up two goals.

In a recent practice, Lunin also got the short end of the stick from goalkeeping coach Luis Llopis. Although gifted, the 24-year-old does not provide Courtois’ level of dependability.

Los Blancos will thus be hoping that the Belgian’s pain is not significant and that he will return to action as soon as possible.

It is uncertain whether Courtois will play against Manchester United. Not only the Belgian, but also Arda Guler, a fellow Real Madrid player, is unsure about his participation in the upcoming match due to a small ache.
