Uncovering the Truth Behind De Gea's Departure from Man Utd: Did Man Utd Betray Him?
The Manchester Evening News confirm Manchester United have never offered David de Gea a contract extension.
On the evening of July 8, David de Gea announced his departure from Man Utd. The Old Trafford team decided not to renew the contract, so the Spaniard had no choice but to leave.
Initially, the Red Devils were said to have reached an agreement with De Gea on a new contract with a significantly reduced salary. But, Man Utd changed his mind. They asked De Gea to take a deeper pay cut. The 32-year-old goalkeeper did not agree, so the negotiations fell into a deadlock.
Man Utd ignored De Gea.
However, the Manchester Evening News reports that, contrary to reports, De Gea has never actually been offered a new contract at Old Trafford.
Man Utd insiders claim that no contract has been officially offered for the 32-year-old. De Gea reflected on this situation at the end of the 2022/23 season, but did not receive a response from Man Utd.
Since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2011, De Gea has made 545 appearances for United with 190 clean sheets, all club records for a goalkeeper.
With Man Utd, he won the Premier League, FA Cup, Europa League and two Carabao Cups. De Gea also won the Premier League Golden Glove award twice, receiving the team’s Player of the Year award four times.
