The Inspiring Journey of a Puppy with a Cleft Palate: Overcoming Challenges to Find Happiness and Beauty (Video)

This scrumptious little love nugget was born two days ago with a cleft palate and is struggling to survive. He is very handsome and his name is Carter. He appears to be in great shape, especially for a puppy with a cleft palate, that was rendered unable to nurse from his mother. The gentleman who surrendered him was taught how to tubefeed by his vet, and was able to keep him hydrated and nourished.

He’s going to be a heartbreaker for sure! He’s doing great, we have his meals up to 12 mL, he is well hydrated, producing perfect poop, maintaining a good temperature, active, adorable and practically edible! Day 2: Carter is doing well, diligently working on his fat rolls, He’s a strong, dramatic little boy that likes to fight me at every one of his feedings So far so good… He’s gaining weight, now 9.

4 ounces, eating 15 mL per meal, and producing nice clear urine and healthy poops. Day 7: Carter is working hard on his fat rolls, weighing in at 14 ounces at nine days old! Day 10: 15.3oz!!! Day 11: Carter is starting to open his eyes! We see you baby boy and you are ridiculously handsome! Day 12: Wake up Carter it’s time for breakfast! Our resident fatty weighs in at 1 lbs. 1 oz.

Day 26: Today Carter graduated from “tube feeding” to “cube feeding”!! He is no longer being tubefed and now he is eating a custom gelatin recipe consisting of puppy milk replacer, Royal Canin babydog mousse, beef gelatin and water. Day 28: Carter‘s favorite time of the day! He is now weighing in at 1 lbs. 14 oz.

! Day 30: After breakfast Carter moseyed around his room looking for his favorite new toy… Found it Day 38: Day 39: Carter had a field trip tonight after dinner. He visited the older puppy play room and got to hang with Phillys and Mr. T!
