Carlo Ancelotti applying logic he learned for Roberto Baggio and Zinedine Zidane to Jude Bellingham
This summer, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti chose to experiment with a new system at Valdebebas, and if the early preseason matches are any indication, it is working. With star signing Jude Bellingham positioned at the tip of the diamond in the new 4-4-2 diamond system, Marca notes that Bellingham has experience with players of a similar caliber.
Ancelotti has already acknowledged failing to use Roberto Baggio properly while at Parma between 1996 and 1998.
“I had a clear plan when I first started coaching, therefore I didn’t modify it for the guys I had. At Parma, Baggio wanted to play behind the striker, and I didn’t adjust the system because of that experience. He joined a different team. Additionally, I erred.
“With Zidane at Juventus, I started to realize that it is best to adjust to the players. The players’ comfort level with the system they use is essential.
Bellingham seems to be settling in well to his new position right away. He chose the number 5 jersey because he loved Zinedine Zidane, but the great Frenchman also comes to mind when seeing some of the sequences he has put together.
With France, Zidane would frequently be used as a number 10 to great effect, and he has always displayed a goal-scoring streak. At the Santiago Bernabeu, Zidane tended to play on the left in a hybrid style. Not simply because of his jersey and number, Bellingham appears to be following in his footsteps.
