Pulisic Finalizes Move to Milan and Expresses Regret Over Missed Chance at Chelsea
Prior to the 2026 home World Cup in the United States, Christian Pulisic will try to revitalize his flagging club career at Milan.
Pulisic signed a four-year contract with the American-owned team on Thursday, with the Rossoneri holding the option for an additional season.
The 24-year-old Pulisic, who is regarded as the best American player of his generation, suffered with injuries and failed to perform to his full potential at Chelsea. With one year remaining on his contract, he has left the London club.
There are times when he says, “Of course there are times where I definitely wish I could’ve gotten more of an opportunity [at Chelsea] and been that guy, but yeah, for whatever reason, that’s not the case and like I said, I’m just so excited for this new challenge and I’m definitely ready and up for it,” according to a statement to ESPN on Wednesday.

He will join Sergio Dest and Oguchi Onyewu as the third American to play for Milan. RedBird, an American investment company, owns Milan, who acquired Pulisic for a transfer fee of 22 million euros. Compared to what Chelsea paid Borussia Dortmund for Pulisic in 2019, that amount is much lower.
I’m thrilled to be here. I’m eager. After touching down in Milan on Wednesday, Pulisic expressed his excitement to begin playing for this legendary team. “It’s legendary, and I’m really excited to come here and try to win some titles.”
Pulisic did manage to win the Champions League, European Super Cup, and Club World Cup despite his difficulties at Chelsea. He also created other significant moments, which Chelsea highlighted in a statement to express their gratitude for him.
For the US, Pulisic has made 60 appearances and scored 25 goals. At the World Cup in Qatar the year before, he helped his nation make it to the round of 16. The US, Canada, and Mexico will co-host the 2026 World Cup.
After Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Pulisic is the second player to depart Chelsea for Milan during this transfer window. At Milan, Pulisic will also be reunited with Olivier Giroud and Fikayo Tomori, two former teammates from Chelsea.
For Pulisic to do better than Onyewu and Dest did at Milan, not much will be required. Before suffering a knee injury while representing the US team in the 2009 Champions League, Onyewu played only 31 minutes for Milan before being out for the long term. Before departing for Porto in 2011, he also got into a fight with Zlatan Ibrahimovi during a training session.
Dest, who was on loan from Barcelona to Milan previous season, only made eight appearances.
Following Ibrahimovi’s retirement following the 2017–18 campaign, Pulisic will wear the No. 11 jersey.
