Pregnant Dog Desperately Seeking Assistance
On November 11th, I received a report about a pregnant dog in desperate need of help. Little did I know that her story would leave me heartbroken and in awe of her strength.
When I finally got to her, my heart sank as I saw the state she was in. She was just days away from giving birth, but had been abandoned in a box with a broken neck. It was clear that she had suffered violent trauma, and her little body was covered in signs of abuse.
As I rushed her to the vet, it became clear that her situation was extremely critical. Her puppies were at risk, and we needed to act fast. The vet suggested that we move her to a larger hospital for specialized care.
In my arms, she collapsed and I could feel her belly bleeding profusely. It was clear that we needed to act quickly to save her life. She was given a blood transfusion immediately, and the new vet worked to stabilize her neck as best as possible.
But despite our best efforts, she was still unable to move. We could only hope that she would make it through the night. Miraculously, the next day, she was a bit better. But she was still at risk of death.
The vet explained that she needed surgery on her neck to save her life. However, we had to wait until she gave birth to her puppies. 48 hours after she gave birth to 7 puppies, two of them were stillborn. It was clear that Belinha was still in no state to feed her remaining puppies, and we had to find a way to keep them alive.
But despite the odds, her remaining puppies were strong and fighting to survive. It was nothing short of a miracle that they were still alive.
Finally, Belinha was ready for her surgery. And luckily, it went very well. She would stay in a special room for 72 hours, so that she could get better before seeing her puppies.
I cannot express enough thanks to Protetora Carol, who saved Belinha and brought her to our attention. Without her, we would not have been able to save this brave mother and her puppies. Belinha’s story is a testament to the strength and resilience of animals, and the power of human compassion to help them in their time of need.
