Had it not been for the kindness of a stranger, Charlie the Pit Bull may have perished in a pile of garbage. Nikki Rubino stumbled upon the injured dog lying next to a dumpster, covered in dirt, flies, and wounds to his head. After being alerted to Charlie’s situation via a Facebook post, Nikki, a former vet technician, rushed to the scene and immediately recognized the gravity of the situation. She found Charlie barely conscious, tethered to a pole with a makeshift string. Despite his dire condition, Charlie managed to lift his head, a miracle in and of itself.

Nikki and her buddy quickly transported him to the Philadelphia Animal Hospital as soon as they saw his dire condition. The Pit bull, who is only two years old, has been in a precarious state ever since. However, he has garnered a community of well-wishers who are helping him recuperate.

On Facebook, the Philadelphia Animal Hospital stated that the picture they posted is distressing but significant. They sympathized with innocent animals who are mistreated and acknowledged that this occurrence isn’t a one-time event. They also mentioned that Charlie, a lovable dog, is currently in steady condition, and the veterinarians are doing everything in their power to guarantee his complete recovery.

The Pennsylvania Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has initiated an investigation to determine who is responsible for causing harm to Charlie. The humane law-enforcement unit of the PSPCA is conducting this investigation. Charlie has a microchip that was implanted by the PSPCA as part of their front clinic/vaccine clinic services. Charlie’s injuries suggest that he was used as a bait dog by dog fighters.

Numerous donations have flooded in for Charlie, and the Philadelphia Animal Hospital is now recommending that people contribute to the City of Elderly Love: Save a Senior Pet if they wish to donate in the future. City of Elderly Love expressed gratitude for Charlie’s rescuers, who brought him to the ideal location. Although Charlie is not the typical rescue case, the Philadelphia Animal Hospital will treat him without charge, and City of Elderly Love will be responsible for his care once he recovers. The organization has high hopes that the Humane Law Enforcement team in Philly will be able to hold Charlie’s abusers accountable.

Charlie, who was rescued on October 26, 2017, is still being monitored by doctors to prevent sepsis due to his wounds; however, there are positive indications that he is recuperating. Three days after his rescue, on October 29, he was seen happily trotting around the hospital. The recovery time for Charlie is uncertain, and it will be taken one day at a time. Nonetheless, his rescuers are optimistic as he is strong and the worst is over. To further aid his recuperation, Charlie will undergo surgery tomorrow to remove more of the dead tissue on his face. He will need a series of procedures to make a complete recovery, but the rescue group has assured that he is comfortable and well-rested with plenty of cuddles.

The veterinary clinic mentioned that they will be performing a surgical procedure on Charlie the following day to eliminate most of the necrotic tissue in his face and snout. Although he will require multiple surgeries, this is a positive development. Charlie is currently eating well and feeling much more at ease than before.
