Erling Haaland's Heartfelt Tribute for a Special 'Birthday Song' on His 23rd Birthday

Erling Haaland acknowledged Mateo Kovacic for the birthday song by posting a video of the Croatian midfielder singing his initiation song to his social media accounts.

The City team is presently in Japan for preseason after reuniting after summer breaks. On Sunday, they will play their first preseason match against Yokohama FM of the J League.

As is customary for many players upon joining a new club, Kovacic used what appeared to be a team meal to perform his initiation song, Steve Holy’s “Good Morning Beautiful.”

Though City will hope that Kovacic performs better on the field than in front of the microphone, the 29-year-old received a standing ovation from his new teammates.

The team celebrated the birthday of star forward Haaland in Japan, where the Norwegian turned 23 on Friday.

Kovacic joined City for £25 million from Chelsea this summer, when City needed to bolster their treble-winning squad due to anticipated departures.

Ilkay Gundogan, their former captain, has already left, and Riyad Mahrez will shortly move to Saudi Arabia.

The Algerian superstar was the subject of a £30 million bid from Al Ahli, which was approved by City as he nears the end of his fairytale Premier League career.

Aymeric Laporte, Bernardo Silva, and Kyle Walker have also been linked to transfers away, with City tasked with replacing some of their key players if the rumors prove true.

Kovacic has been the only addition to the City squad thus far, with the expectation that he will be able to partially replace Gundogan’s presence.

Haaland posted a snippet of the song to his Instagram account, labeling Kovacic and writing ‘thanks for the birthday song’ in the caption.

Friday was Haaland’s birthday, and he was appreciative to his teammates for making the day special while on tour.

Jack Grealish presented the forward with a birthday cake and conducted the singing of “Happy Birthday” while Haaland beamed with joy.

Haaland punched the air as the song continued, before clapping and saying “thank you guys, beautiful cake, nice” at the conclusion of the song.

However, he refused to blow out the candles as the audience cheered and laughed as Haaland thanked his teammates once more.
