Elliott and Jones Inspire England to U21 European Championship Victory

Saturday evening, Curtis Jones scored the game-winning goal as England won the U21 European Championship.

The Liverpool midfielder participated in the entirety of the Young Lions’ 1-0 victory over Spain at Georgia’s Batumi Arena.

Jones was credited with the game’s lone goal after Cole Palmer’s free-kick deflected off him and into the net during first-half stoppage time, and was subsequently named the game’s MVP.

In dramatic fashion, Lee Carsley’s squad, for which Harvey Elliott came off the bench with eight minutes remaining, recorded their sixth consecutive clean sheet in the competition.

James Trafford saved Abel Ruiz’s penalty nine minutes after the end of regulation to preserve England’s lead and secure the trophy.

Jones was making his fifth appearance and Elliott his fifth as the Young Lions were crowned U21 European champions for the first time since 1984.
