Liverpool’s several offers for the 19-year-old earlier in the summer were all turned down, and now they’ve lost out to Chelsea again. Liverpool also had a late approach for Moises Caicedo denied, and Chelsea signed him to a British record deal with Brighton this week for £115 million.

To compete with Caicedo for a spot in Mauricio Pochettino’s expensively-assembled new-look midfield, Lavia completed his medical on Thursday and signed a seven-year contract through 2030. He could make his Premier League debut as soon as Sunday’s London derby away at West Ham. He’s going to west London and wearing the no. 45 shirt.

I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Chelsea on this innovative endeavor. Lavia exclaimed, “I’m incredibly pleased to get started. This is an incredible football club with a fantastic history.

I’m looking forward to connecting with my new teammates and developing our team dynamic.
