Chelsea’s Mykhaylo Mudryk gets mocked with Christian Pulisic comparisons after the team’s loss
After he blasted an open volley high and wide in Sunday’s 3-1 loss to West Ham, Chelsea forward Mykhaylo Mudryk was unfairly compared to Christian Pulisic, who recently left the Blues. Former United States me𝚗’s national team player and noted U.S. analyst Taylor Twellman has said that the club made a mistake this year by selling Pulisic to AC Milan and trusting Mudryk.
Twellman captioned a video of Mudryk’s miss with an eye-roll emoji and the snide comment, “Better than Pulisic.” It was the final nail in the coffin for the Blues, whose high-priced team had zero points after two games.
In the second half, Mudryk replaced Carney Chukwuemeka in the loss to West Ham, although he did not have the desired effect on the game. Since moving to London for a cost that might grow to £88.5million with add-ons, he has been the target of much criticism, and Twellman wasn’t the only one to point out his problems on Sunday.
“Maybe the substitution [Chukwuemeka off, Mudryk on] caused an issue,” said ex-Chelsea star Ashley Cole on Sky Sports after the game. “At that point, West Ham had it too easy.”
“You are looking at other players around, Mudryk is sometimes a little bit too far away from the game,” Cole continued. Is it sufficient that he shows up in the box?
Throughout the summer, Mudryk kept saying that things will only get better. After scoring in the preseason, he commented, “It’s not all my potential.” “It’s merely a 20% reduction. I’m in a good mood because playing for our new manager, Mauricio Pochettino, is exciting and fun.
When asked about his lackluster final few months of 2022/23, he responded, “[It was] a learning period,” and then added, “If people always expect so much from someone, then it is his problem because he is [the one who is] expecting.”
The 22-year-old is jammed in with a slew of other forwards and has no room to maneuver. After interim head coach Frank Lampard hardly played the American winger, Chelsea shipped him off to AC Milan for an alleged £18.8m.
Pulisic made a mark in European competition and the Premier League before leaving England, where he scored 20 goals and assisted on nine others. In 2021, he notably won the Champions League semi-final after scoring the game-winning goal against Real Madrid.
Leaving Chelsea “felt like the right time to move for my career,” Pulisic said on “Me𝚗 In Blazers.” He explained that the decision to leave Chelsea “didn’t necessarily Һit move” at any particular point during the season. “It was a no-brainer to make this change,” she said.
Chelsea already face an uphill bаttle in the Premier League after two consecutive dismal performances, as Pulisic strives to get his club career back on track with more frequent playing time in Serie A. On Friday, they’ll be hosting Luton Town as they look for their first victory, and it’s not certain that Mudryk will be starting.
