Andy Cole outlines Mason Mount hope for new Manchester United season after Chelsea transfer
Man United’s first signing of the summer transfer window is the midfielder.
Andy Cole believes Mason Mount’s signing is a good one for Manchester United and hopes the midfielder will help the Reds get back to the top.
Mount is United’s first acquisition of the summer transfer window. Following his departure from Chelsea, he signed a five-year contract with the option of an additional year.
United had to wait for the 24-year-old England international as Chelsea sought the highest possible sum for a player who was out of contract in 2024. After a pair of bids were turned down by Chelsea, an original sum of £55 million plus an additional £5 million in performance-related add-ons was agreed upon.
Mount has been announced as a United player and is currently taking part in pre-season training at the club’s Carrington training complex. The focus is on preparation for the new season, which begins on August 14 at home against Wolves in the Premier League.
Former United striker Cole was asked about Mount’s arrival at Old Trafford while attending the Formula One British Grand Prix at Silverstone this afternoon. After a challenging season at Stamford Bridge for Mount last season, Cole is certain that the midfielder can make an impact at United and help the club return to the top flight.
Cole told Sky Sports: “It’s a positive signing, of course it is.” I believe it is positive, and everything has worked out well for him.
“He had a difficult season at Chelsea last season, and he didn’t play as many games as he would have liked.” I’m hopeful he can come to Manchester United and have a good time while bringing the club to the next level.”
